La Belle Auberge is a grand victorian bed & breakfast built in 1907 by John Smith for his beloved wife Ida. Our warm and wonderful home is now available for all to love.

Once upon a time in the community of Wellsboro, there lived a man named John W. Smith. He was very much in love with his wife, Ida May Bartholomew Smith, and planned a very special surprise gift for her. Ida May knew that John was building a house on the corner of Main and Norris streets and she would keep track of the progress of the building. John would ask her opinions on what she liked in architecture and would incorporate her tastes into the building. What he didn't tell Ida May until later was, he was building this lovely home for her.

The home, which was built in 1907, was once Wellsboro's hospital and has had several owners, including our state representative, Matt Baker, who sold the home in 1997, when it first became a bed and breakfast.

Ida May's home is now La Belle Auberge Bed & Breakfast.
